In The Kitchen: Classic Waldorf Salad

Nov 23rd

When it comes to the holiday season one of the standard “go-tos” in hubster’s family is the Waldorf salad. Whether served at Ocktoberfest, at Thanksgiving dinner or for a Christmas Eve gathering it’s usually always on the menu. It’s grandpa’s favorite making it a must. The best part about this salad is how insanely easy it is to make! Someone with no cooking experience would be able to handle it…honestly!

The crisp crunch from apples, walnuts and celery mixed with a zesty orange dressing with a hit of sweet makes it the perfect palate pleaser. For fun entertaining simply serve the salad in small iceberg lettuce cups. Quite fancy eh? This idea was from my MIL so you know it’s a crowd favorite as she’s the queen of entertaining. The photos from making this recipe was for 40 people so obviously I had to eight times the recipe!! Yes it was a lot of chopping.

For a serving for four people this is what you need:

For the Salad:

4 apples chopped

1 cup celery sliced

3/4 cups walnuts coarsely chopped

iceberg lettuce cups

For the Dressing:

2 tablespoons powdered sugar

1/2 cup whipping cream whipped

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1 tablespoon orange zest

1 tablespoon orange juice

Mix the powdered sugar, whipping cream and mayonnaise together.

Hello zest!

Add your zest and orange juice to the dressing. Chill for 30 minutes.

Chop your walnuts.

Chop your celery!

Cut your apples. Place in lemon water until you mix everything to keep from browning.

Mix the apples, walnuts and celery together in the dressing.

Serve in iceberg lettuce cups.

What do you think? Will you be making this?
