Hubby-Wife Life: Hosting Our First “Franksgiving”

Nov 28th

Appetizer platter

Well I don’t know about you but I am still stuffed and feeling beyond uncomfortable from our “Franksgiving.” Why is it “Franksgiving” you ask? We celebrated on Friday since my faj (dad) was working and lil bro was coming home from school. Substituted the “Th” for “Fr” and voila…a new word. I can’t take all the credit on this one. It’s what hubster and I come up with after a long day of prepping in the kitchen (as possibly a couple glasses of wine)

Fried Sweet Potato Fries

Billy Bob and Hermaine

The spread….well, the first pans

I must say it was a lot of fun hosting for the first time. Though we only had 8 people we could have fed about 20…no joke. We have issues with portion control and decided to make two pans of everything. Anyone want to come over for dinner? Despite eating all weekend while turning the house into a winter wonderful and celebrating again with the in-laws, we still have enough to feed an army. And to add to the problem, of course the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is on. Bad combo.

Frying the turkeys was the best way to go, along with adding double the cheese required in the broccoli-cheese casserole. It’s the simple things. Also, Hermaine and Billy Bob were fabulous turkeys names and we really got to know them quite well. So well, Hermaine was originally Herman but we felt he needed a little more pizazz. Again, multiple glasses of wine convo. Over the next couple weeks I’ll be posting a lot of recipes that are perfect for this holiday season.

Maple syrup, thyme, garlic, peppercorn & bay leave brine for Hermaine

Now we get to look forward to holiday lights, flocked trees (it is important to feel like there’s “snow” in So Cal), cookie baking parties, watching Christmas movies, quoting my favorites like “Elf” and “Christmas Vacation” and oh well….my birthday!!! Hoping you had a wonderful Thanksgiving too!!! :)
