In The Kitchen: Wassail Anyone?

Dec 12th

One of my favorite things about the holidays is a warm cup of cider. Ever since I was a little girl I loved drinking hot apple cider with cinnamon sticks on chilly nights. When I celebrated my first holiday with hubster’s family I learned about their tradition of wassail. This hot spiced cider (which can be spiked with rum) is in a crockpot from Halloween to New Year’s. There are a variety of different recipes you can use to make a warm cup but this one is most like what we do. Another perk besides being completely warmed, your house will smell amazing. I usually leave mine in the crockpot for a day or so. It truly smells like the holidays. Have you ever made wassail?

We use apple juice, cranberry pomegranate, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange and cloves.

Pour our juice in and put the crockpot on low. I do about 3/4 apple to 1/4 cranberry.

Stick an orange with cloves and add a little bit of nutmeg, cinnamon and cinnamon sticks.
